Ana Azpeitia
Window mapping
The site: Stadthaus Zug, interior office room.
Description of the installation:
A composition of 2 pieces made out of adhesive film covering the interior side of 2 bottom glasses of the meeting room. The film is not completely opaque and in some areas is cropped so that natural light can also enter the room.
The aim:
The work aims is to create a visual game using the frame given and at the same time provide privacy to the meeting room without losing all the natural light coming from the windows on the opposite wall. “Window mapping” implements some of the formal elements that often appear on Azpeitia's artworks; a combination of organic textures and geometrical shapes and lines. One of the layered textures the city of Zug map, a visual and symbolic representation of the work’s cultural and geographic context. The geometrical textures are a reminder of an essential element of the city, the windows. They appear in variety of shapes, forms and proportions; as simple squares or rectangles, opaque, translucid, covered with blinds or completely transparent. The effect produced is almost a pixelated pattern with visual resonations of a QR code. The organic textures are scattered around the composition representing the natural environment fighting to get integrated in the busy and over constructed centre of the city’s map, trying to reconquer its lost territory.
